What is the Center?

The Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education is a non-religious, non-political center that is committed to "develop the heart, be compassionate, work for peace in your heart and in the world." It will offer educational programs, facilitate research and host various dialogues directed at creating an international climate of peace.

The Center is inspired by the Dalai Lama's teaching on kindness, compassion and interconnectedness.

When and where will the Center be established?

A physical site is being considered in downtown Vancouver and construction plans are currently being reviewed.

What will the Center do until the building is complete?

The Center will host major events in collaboration with the Dalai Lama, who has committed to regularly visit Vancouver to support the Center. Other program activities, hosted in collaboration with other institutions or on-line, are being planned prior to the opening of the physical site.

Is the Center religious or political?

No, the Center is non-religious and non-political. The Center is focused on creating a climate of peace and well-being for all peoples, regardless of political or religious affiliation.

Will the Center be open to the public?

Yes. The Center will be located so that it will be an easily accessible meeting place for the general public. The Center will have open spaces for the public to enjoy as well as other public facilities such as a library, café and bookstore.

Will the Dalai Lama visit the Center?

The Dalai Lama has committed to visiting Vancouver regularly.

How is the Center being funded?

Initial funding for the Center has been secured through private citizens and foundations. Funding support is being actively sought from corporations, foundations and private citizens to support the building of the Centre and the operation of its programs.
