Educating the Heart: A Global Aspiration

"To reduce hatred and other destructive emotions, we must develop their opposites – compassion and kindness."      - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Heart-Mind Learning

There is a growing body of research that shows that children who develop strong social and emotional skills are less likely to drop-out of school or run into problems with drugs and alcohol, violence and bullying.

They have a more positive attitude towards and do better in school. And they grow into adults who have the skills that today’s employers consider important for the workforce of the future.

Simply put, they are happier, and get along with others.

Heart-Mind learning emphasizes not only academic achievement, but also the development of the social and emotional strengths that help children to be responsible, collaborative, confident and caring.

The Dalai Lama Center's programs are designed to raise awareness of the science that supports a Heart-Mind balance in learning, and to translate that research into action. Our programs focus on systemic change and improving the skills and awareness of the adults who care for and about children.
